Madison County is located in the central part of the far northern region of the state. The county was founded in 1808 and was named after President James Madison. President Madison was the fourth president of the United States and was the first president to visit the State of Alabama. The population is 334,811 making it the third largest county in the state.

Huntsville is the county seat as well as the fourth largest city in the state. Madison County is served by the 23rd Judicial Circuit of Alabama. NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the United States Army Aviation and Missile Command are both located in Huntsville. It has appropriately been nicknamed “The Rocket City.”
